It is no exaggeration to state that this Norwegian company targets the deepest seas and outer space at the same time with its products, ranging from anti-ship missiles to military communication, to command and control systems of air defence applications.
The basic principle of the company is that from the beginning all of their defence products are planned for export – this is how one of the company’s iconic products, NASAMS (National/Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Missile System), will enter service in Hungary in 2025. Their range of development and production is quite wide: in addition to the military radios commissioned in the Hungarian Defence Forces, Kongsberg also produces, for example, special metal alloys known for their extreme durability and used in fifth-generation fighter jets. It is not so well known, but the company undertakes, for example, the full-life servicing of helicopters (such as the Sea King) and the supply of certain major components (such as rotors). Kongsberg is, of course, primarily known for its extensive range of defence and security products: for example the C4ISR command and control system, or the multi-purpose Vanguard warship.
As far as space is concerned, a significant part of the communication devices and components essential for terrestrial data collection are also manufactured by Kongsberg. The company specialises in manufacturing antennas, observation stations, meteorological stations, electronic equipment, and space telescopes. In addition to the above, the Norwegian company is also characterized by innovative solutions such as the Optopyro (optical-pyrotechnic system) developed since 2001, which is used in satellites and rocket launchers.
